Rising N.J. singer books ‘SNL’ musical guest spot. What to know about Mk.Gee.

“Saturday Night Live” announced Thursday two sets of hosts and musical guests for upcoming shows, and there’s a New Jersey link for the first post-election episode.
On Nov. 9, multi-instrumentalist and producer Mk.Gee (real name Michael Todd Gordon) will hit the “SNL” stage as a musical guest for the first time.
Gordon, 27, from Linwood, is the first New Jersey artist to appear on the show since The Jonas Brothers in April 2023.
The rising musician started his musical career writing original piano pieces when he was seven.
While attending Linwood’s Mainland Regional High School as a junior in 2014, Gordon received the Somers Point Jazz Society’s first-ever jazz scholarship. After graduating, he attended University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music.
He released his first single, “I Know How You Get,” in 2017 and his debut EP, “Pronounced McGee,” in 2018. In May 2020, Gordon released his first mixtape, “A Museum of Contradiction,” followed by his debut album “Two Star & The Dream Police” earlier this year.
The February debut, mixing indie-rock, pop, lo-fi and electronic sounds, earned wide acclaim, with gushing reviews from taste-making music publications like Pitchfork and Stereogum. Pitchfork named Gordon‘s album on its “best albums of the first half of the 2020s” list.
Gordon’s projects are all self-produced, and he has cited artists such as Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, and Prince as inspirations. He now touts 2.4 million Spotify listeners.
Gordon is currently on the “Two Star & the Dream Police” world tour, ending on Dec. 7 in Melbourne, Australia. He headlined Irving Plaza in New York back in May.
